In a move set to transform Nigeria’s automotive repair industry, 234Drive has partnered with the Nigerian Automobile Technicians Association (NATA) to bring a long-overdue digital overhaul to the sector. NATA, the apex body overseeing automobile technicians across the country, has long served as the unifying structure for mechanics of every specialization. From the establishment of mechanic villages to a shared goal of continuous upskilling, the association has played a pivotal role in shaping the profession. However, like many industries in Nigeria, the automobile repair sector has struggled with outdated systems of operation.
Until now, the NATA structure has relied heavily on paper-based documentation, fragmented records, and minimal digital presence. This has severely limited coordination, efficiency, and the growth potential of thousands of technicians. Recognizing this gap, 234Drive initiated and sustained months of engagement with NATA’s executives in Lagos to craft a solution: a full-scale digital transformation of NATA’s operational framework.
The partnership’s first milestone was the creation of a database to digitally register the association’s executives and lay the groundwork for onboarding over 5,000 mechanics in the Lagos chapter alone. To support this, 234Drive developed a custom-built data collection portal designed to identify the core challenges limiting productivity within the ecosystem. From inadequate tools to training gaps, this portal is helping document the issues that truly matter to technicians on the ground.
Every month, NATA Lagos holds a state meeting, rotating across local government areas and drawing representatives from all LGAs. These meetings serve as a conduit for important updates from stakeholders ranging from government agencies to car manufacturers and parts sellers. At a recent meeting, the digital upgrade took center stage. The initiative was officially unveiled, and mechanics were guided through the data collection process with the help of 234Drive staff and NATA officials.
Gbenga Olatunbosun, representing 234Drive, delivered a keynote address to a highly receptive crowd. His message was clear: the era of disorganized records and low visibility is ending. With improved digital infrastructure comes greater efficiency, better earnings, and improved quality of life for technicians.
This is just the beginning. While the foundations have been laid, more work is already in progress to deepen the digital presence of Nigeria’s automotive repair sector. The partnership between 234Drive and NATA signals a bold new direction—one that honors the hard work of technicians while preparing them for a more connected, productive future.
