A Nigerian teenager is gaining international attention for an electric vehicle concept focused on making EVs more affordable.
Ishaq Jamilu, a 19-year-old from Katsina State, received recognition from International Art Magazine Japan after sharing his automotive design work online. The recognition has now drawn wider attention to his ambitions in automotive design and sustainable mobility.
Ishaq Jamilu Designs EV Concept to Cut Production Costs
Jamilu developed his interest in automobiles from an early age and taught himself automotive design through online research, technical drawing and 3D modelling. He also gained practical experience working as a vehicle mechanic, which helped him understand how vehicle designs could translate into functional machines.
His proposed EV uses a compact body structure, makes efficient use of space and features a user-friendly interior. He also incorporated design elements aimed at conserving energy while keeping production costs down without removing the core features expected from a modern electric vehicle.
The EV is not Jamilu’s first automotive project. He previously modified and redesigned a Peugeot 406 sedan, combining his mechanical experience with his growing interest in vehicle styling and design.
The international recognition has now pushed him towards his next goal: studying automotive design professionally and gaining the training, mentorship and equipment needed to turn his concepts into functional vehicles.
Jamilu also wants more support for young Nigerian innovators who have ideas but lack access to specialised training and modern equipment. His longer-term goal is to develop affordable and environmentally friendly vehicles that can contribute to Nigeria’s transport sector.
