Last month, Jaguar revealed that they were rebranding to accommodate an all-electric lineup. The rebranding strategy kicked off with a simple name and logo change. The car brand formerly known as Jaguar, was rebranded to ‘JaGUar’, with the letters G and U in upper case. The rebranding strategy, according to JaGUar, is to recapture the essence of what it means to own a JaGUar. Although the first new model of the all-electric lineup is slated to launch in 2026, a concept car has been disclosed to the public.
The first thing you notice about the concept car is the use of a bold pink colour, rather than the regular colours used on everyday cars. The concept car is presented in two colours, dubbed Miami Pink and London Blue. JaGUar has been keen on making use of bright unconventional colours since the rebranding. In the vein of ‘copy nothing’, it makes sense to use such a colour for their concept. I mean, how many cars come from the factory in pink? This vehicle will most likely win the hearts of the female populace.
The Concept Car; A Two Door Coupe
The concept car is called the JaGUar Type 00 (pronounced Type Zero Zero). It is a two-door coupe that has a long hood and fastback roofline. The concept car serves as a clue to what the 2026 electric four-door grand tourer might look like. The front end of the Type 00 has a massive rectangular grille that makes it distinct from any other vehicle. The signature shape of the grille is composed of a series of horizontal elements, a recurring design theme Jaguar calls the “strikethrough”. The front view of the car is completed by a singular line of LED lights that makes up the car’s headlights, as well as its fog lights, giving it a futuristic and slightly robotic look.
In the rear of the Type 00 is another massive grille made up of horizontal lines. Another striking feature of the concept car is the absence of a visible rear window. If you have paid attention to the images so far, you would have noticed that the concept car also lacks a pair of side mirrors. With a missing rear window and side mirrors, it means that this car would make use of cameras to display the rear and side view on screens within the cars cockpit. As for the side view, the Type 00 has a typical coupe design with a fastback appearance. It is also adorned with massive 23-inch wheels that makes up nearly half of the car’s height. The overall look of the concept car is like something straight out of a sci-fi movie and it looks stunning.
What about the Interior?
The interior of the Type 00 has a very minimalist outlook with a calming colour choice and wooden finish. A centre console is seen to run from the dashboard, all the way to the rear of the vehicle, basically dividing the car into two halves. The two pedals are seen tucked away in the drivers corner and there appears to be no centre console. However, Jaguar says that technology should not dominate the cabin, so the screens can be hidden for a ‘digital detox’. Lest I forget, the Type 00 is adorned with butterfly doors through which the interior is accessed. If you follow 234Drive, then you should know what a butterfly door looks like. If you don’t, you are in luck because Olamide of 234Drive gave a breakdown of different types of car doors.
With all the exterior and interior features seen so far, we can say that Jaguar has indeed done something different and not ‘copied anything’. Nonetheless, the Type 00 remains merely a concept that may never see the light of day as a motorable vehicle. However, it provides an idea of what to expect from JaGUar in the coming years. The Type 00 is nothing short of breathtaking and it has aroused a sense of curiosity as to what JaGUar has in store come 2026. The purists may refer to this move by JaGUar as a superficial act, but what are your thoughts?
