To the motorcycle lovers who have been feeling left out on 234Drive, we have something for you! In the last decade, there has been a fast growing motorcycle following in Nigeria. Just to be clear, when I say ‘motorcycle’, I am not referring to the ‘okada’ you board to escape traffic. Rather, I am referring to the powerful powerbikes that have been tearing up the streets of Nigeria. Every now and then, photos and videos of biker crews wading through Nigerian traffic surface on the internet. In fact, a tragic accident involving a couple of powerbikes happened two weekends ago during a drag race. It’s clear that the biker culture has truly infiltrated the Nigerian automotive space.
What makes the Streetfighter V2 so special?
So, back to what 234Drive has for motorcycle lovers. The Italian motorcycle brand called Ducati has just unveiled the 2025 Streetfighter V2 at the International Cycle, Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA), otherwise known as the Milan Motorcycle Show which was held in Milan, Italy. The all-new 2025 Ducati Streetfighter V2 comes with an equally all-new twin-cylinder engine. It shares this engine with one of its siblings, the Ducati Panigale V2.
In creating the Streetfighter V2, emphasis was placed on making it as light as possible. Ducatti claims the V2 engine is the lightest twin-cylinder engine it has ever made. The V2 engine weighs slightly more than a bag of Dangote cement (50kg) at 54.5kg. More so, the entire bike itself is just as light, tipping the scales at just 175 kg with no fuel in the tank. That is less than the combined weight of four bags of Dangote cement.
Aside from the lightweightedness of the Streetfighter V2, another eye-catching feature is its naked motorcycle design which exposes its sleek structural design and engine. Speaking of engines, the V2 engine produces 115 horsepower(hp). One might say 115 hp is not a fantastic number, but don’t forget that this motorcycle weighs 175 kg. That is equivalent to 1 horsepower for every 1.5 kg of weight. The Streetfighter V2 is going to have four riding modes. These include ‘Race’, ‘Sport’, ‘Road’ and ‘Wet’ to cope with the rainy season— something to keep in mind for future Nigerian buyers.
When will the ‘fighter’ hit the streets?
Ducati says the 2025 Streetfighter V2 will be available by March, 2025. As for those who would love to get their Streetfighter in some amazing colours like green or black, the Streetfighter V2 is going to be offered with only one colour: the Ducati Red. I know that a good number of non-motorcycle lovers are already lost at sea with all the gibberish that I have been spilling, so I am going to end here.
In the World of motorcycles, the Ducati takes its place as one of the pinnacles of motorcycle engineering. Some might argue that the Japanese Kawasaki Ninja and German BMW power bikes are better motorcycles. However, the Ducati, just like its Italian compatriot Ferrari, evokes a sense of class and exclusivity.
