It is the Formula 1 (F1) season once again, as the 2025 F1 Season is set to begin in about three weeks on 14 March 2025. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the prestigious Formula 1 sport. To commemorate the milestone, no expense was spared for the opening ceremony that took place on 18 February 2025. The event took place at the London’s O2 Arena, with all 10 F1 teams and 20 drivers in attendance. In the course of the event, all 10 teams unveiled their 2025 liveries for the new season. Out of all the livery unveilings, Aston Martins’ caught a lot of attention and for all the right reasons.
Aston Martins’ Livery Unveiling
Aston Martin, one of the relatively new members to F1 had an eye-catching livery unveil. The car brand initially joined Formula 1 in 1959 and competed for only two seasons. After the 1960 season, they took a 60 year hiatus before returning to F1 in 2021. Thus making them old-new F1 contenders. Aston Martin cars have always been closely knitted with the James Bond franchise. So their James Bond-themed livery unveil came as no surprise and it was spectacular.
Aston Martin went all out, kicking off with a performance from the Grammy Award winning Nigerian musician, Tems. While the Aston Martin team revealed their new car, Tems graced the 02 Arena with her amazing voice. She became the first Nigerian artist to perform at a Formula 1 opening ceremony. By doing so, she is part of the greats like Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban, John Legend and J Balvin who performed at the 2023 F1 opening ceremony. Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso, the Aston Martin F1 drivers also graced the stage.
Sir Lewis Hamiltons’ Ferrari Reveal
A while back we covered the ‘big move’ of Sir Lewis Hamilton from the Mercedes F1 team to Ferrari. A little recap: Lewis Hamilton made the decision to leave Mercedes for Ferrari after 12 years and 6 world titles with the team. Thus ending one of the greatest driver-team partnerships in F1 history. Lewis Hamilton was seen in his Ferrari apparel alongside his new team mate Charles Leclerc and Fred Vasseur, the principal for Ferrari’s F1 team . This would be his first official appearance since joining the team late last year.
Overall, the Racing Bulls F1 team was ranked by Racing News 365 (RN365) to have had the best livery design of the ten teams. The Aston Martins’ livery came in 5th place according to the RN365 ranking, while Ferrari came in 6th place. The 75th Formula 1 opening ceremony was a success and now that it’s over, we all look forward to the official start of the season. What is your favourite livery design of the pack?
