Jeff Bezos’ $245 billion fortune puts every purchase into perspective: even his most extravagant acquisitions—his $237 million Miami estate and his $500 million superyacht—together represent well under 0.4% of his total wealth.
Yet these purchases reveal how he channels a tiny share of that fortune into assets that break records and signal a very particular vision of personal luxury.
The vessel, Koru, is a 417-foot sailing yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Oceanco, now owned by Valve cofounder Gabe Newell. Bezos commissioned it in 2018, and its half-billion-dollar price tag places it among the most expensive private builds ever completed. Its size has already forced unconventional logistics; The New York Times noted that the vessel is too large to berth among typical private yachts in Florida.
Koru wrapped its North Sea trials in 2023, and Bezos and Lauren Sánchez quickly began taking it on Mediterranean trips, including a summer cruise around Mallorca. To keep the yacht running smoothly, Bezos added Abeona, a $75 million support vessel equipped with a helipad and full logistics capability.

Koru rejects the sharp, futuristic style seen across modern billionaire fleets and instead embraces a heritage sailing profile. Designed with Dykstra Naval Architecture, it features a deep navy hull, a tall aluminum superstructure, a sweeping canoe stern, and three imposing masts. Maritime historian Robert B. MacKay compared it to J.P. Morgan Jr.’s 1930 yacht Corsair IV, calling Koru a contemporary revival of a classic era.

Inside the Koru
Inside, Oceanco shaped the space with warm woods, textured neutrals, and refined fabrics. Amenities include three jacuzzis, a swimming pool, a spa and sauna suite, a massage room, a gym, a movie theater, and nine guest staterooms. Bezos has already hosted a roster of prominent visitors—from Leonardo DiCaprio and Bill Gates to Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, and Orlando Bloom.
And, ultimately, this is what his scale of wealth and his standard of luxury look like in practice: after cruising around in a $500 million yacht, he can sail into port in Miami and head straight to a $237 million estate he calls home. Very few people can do this—and so far, only Jeff can claim he has actually done it.
