Airport taxi operations are heading for a reset from 1 July, 2026 as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) prepares to launch the Airport Car Hire Rank Management System (ACHRAMS).
The platform will organise registered car hire operators, reduce loitering around arrival areas and make taxis easier for passengers to access. At the same time, the airport manager has defended its new vehicle upgrade rule and higher operating tariff, saying both decisions aim to improve safety, comfort and service standards across Nigerian airports.
What the New Rules Mean for Airport Cab Operators

FAAN said it has started engaging airport car hire operators ahead of the ACHRAMS rollout. During a meeting with operators, the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Mrs Joy Agunbiade, said the Authority had completed arrangements for the launch and would finish training and sensitisation before the end of June.
The system is expected to improve how car hire services move passengers from airport arrival areas. It will also support better revenue collection and create a more organised process for registered operators. Mrs Agunbiade urged all operators to complete their registration and application processes before the 1st July take-off date.
The Authority also used a separate public announcement to respond to concerns from some airport cab operators over vehicle standards and operational charges. It said the directive asking operators to upgrade to newer vehicles is not meant to punish businesses but to make airport taxis cleaner, safer, more reliable and more comfortable for passengers.
On tariff changes, the airport manager said the operational charge moved from ₦500 to ₦1,500 because the old fee had remained unchanged for over eight years. It pointed to inflation, higher maintenance costs and wider increases in the cost of doing business as reasons for the review.
The agency added that it has shown flexibility on the vehicle upgrade timeline. The issue was first discussed with operators in July 2024, with the original deadline later shifted from January 2026 to June 2026. It is now considering a final extension to October 2026.
FAAN said it will continue to work directly with registered cab companies and expects operators to align with the new system as Nigeria’s airports push for safer and better organised transport services.
